How we rank

We use a Bayesian average formula that combines Google rating (1–5) with the number of reviews. This means a restaurant with 5.0 from 8 reviews does not automatically beat one with 4.7 from 2,000 — more reviews give a more credible rating. Only restaurants with at least 4.3 in rating and 50 reviews qualify. The winner above has the highest score of all 297 qualified restaurants in the whole of Sweden.

The Bayesian formula weighs a high rating against a large number of reviews — so the winner typically combines a very high rating (4.8+) with several hundred to thousands of reviews.

The data is synced continuously from Google Places. As a restaurant gets more reviews or its rating shifts, the Bayesian score is recalculated automatically — which can change the winner over time. In practice the top is fairly stable since it takes many new reviews to dethrone an established leader.

Fully automatically. We make no manual nominations and accept no payment for placements. The winner is computed from Google Places data via a transparent formula — the same method IMDb uses for its Top 250 list of films.

The top is typically dominated by restaurants in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö where both competition and review volume are high. Restaurants in smaller cities can rank highly if they have an exceptionally high rating, but it is harder to gather enough reviews to pass the threshold.
